What is the difference between monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar panels?
Monocrystalline panels are made from a single crystal of silicon, giving them a sleek black look, higher efficiency, and better performance in low-light conditions. They're ideal for areas with limited space. Common types include:
- Mono PERC: Enhanced performance and good for rooftops.
- TOPCon: Advanced tech with high efficiency and durability.
- Bifacial: Captures sunlight from both sides for more power.
- Half-Cut & Shingled Cells: Improved shade tolerance and efficiency.
Polycrystalline panels are made by melting multiple silicon pieces together. They're usually blue in colour, slightly less efficient but more affordable. Types include:
- Standard Poly: Cost-effective and reliable.
- Multi-Busbar Poly: Uses multiple thin wires to reduce power loss and increase efficiency.
- Poly PERC: Similar to mono PERC but with lower efficiency.
In summary, monocrystalline panels are more efficient and space-saving, while polycrystalline panels are budget-friendly with slightly lower efficiency.
